Microsoft 365 App Award - Finalist!

We are thrilled to share we are a finalist in the Microsoft 365 App Awards, to be announced at Microsoft Ignite in Orlando, taking place November 4 - 8, 2019.

The Microsoft 365 app awards recognize companies that have built the best applications on the Microsoft 365 platform for both Office and Windows. Awards will be announced in the theatre sessions on Monday 4th and Tuesday 5th November.

Ignite is the annual gathering of technology leaders and practitioners. It's four days of visionary discussions and hands-on learning about the latest tools and insights that are driving tomorrow's innovations.

With nearly 2000 sessions to choose from at Ignite it's hard to know where to start.  Luckily our CTO, Cameron Dwyer and Product Manager, Colin Wood have shared their top picks!

Cameron Dwyer, OnePlace Solutions, CTO:

BRK3226 - Every team, connected: Develop Microsoft Teams apps with Microsoft Graph

Bill Bliss; Microsoft

The Microsoft Teams Graph APIs have grown considerably over the past year with many new APIs and types for Teams. With team channel chat APIs, integrate Teams conversation experiences into your apps. Find out how to provision focused Teams experiences to every team in your organization, including managing the set of apps deployed to Teams. Connect to the backing information behind every team, including files, plans, notes, and more. This session shows how you can tightly connect to every facet of a team, and with several updates, see new ways for managing Teams applications that make it easier to distribute your apps and get them used

Microsoft Teams is a super-hot topic right now, the only thing hotter is trying to come to grips with how to govern their usage so we don't end up in an unusable mess of 1000's of teams. Having APIs available via the Graph to automate and build a workflow around team lifecycles is critical to the long-term success and adoption of Microsoft Teams. Bill Bliss has a wealth of deep technical knowledge on Teams and will bring a lot of value to this topic.

BRK3231 - Take productivity to the next level with Outlook Add-ins

Juan Balmori Labra; Microsoft

We share all the latest news from the Outlook extensibility world, including new types of scenarios you can enable across Windows, Online, Mac, iOS and Android. We also show you how we transformed the feedback from our community about e-mail compliance, secure communications, tracking, and more into features you can use to delight your customers today!

This session fits firmly in our world of delivering cutting edge modern Outlook Add-ins. I'm looking forward to seeing the latest features and extension capabilities coming soon to Outlook Add-ins across all the devices.

SRCH50 - What's new and next for Microsoft Search customization and development

Nicolas Moreau, Microsoft; Mikael Svenson, Microsoft FAST, Kerem Yuceturk, Microsoft; Jyoti Pal; Microsoft

Microsoft Search is an intelligent, enterprise search experience from Microsoft that applies the artificial intelligence technology (AI) from Bing and deep personalized insights surfaced by the Microsoft Graph, to make search more effective for you. In this session, we demonstrate new Graph APIs and how Microsoft Search will let you create and customize rich search experiences around all of your enterprise content, regardless of where it resides. See our roadmap and examples of how to modernize your existing SharePoint-based enterprise search experiences to take full advantage of Microsoft Search.

Search is so central to everything users do today. The amount of data we are creating and expecting users to consume and make sense of is huge! With all the work that has been done to unify the search experience, it's time for the unveiling of the development and customization story! I'm hoping that's what this session will deliver. This session stands out to me because of its presenters, especially Mikael Svenson who has long been known in the community for work around search and earlier this year was snapped up by Microsoft.

BRK4013 - Top seven tips to become a Microsoft Graph guru

Jeremy Thake, Microsoft

Jeremy Thake, Principal Program Manager on the Microsoft Graph team and former Microsoft MVP, shares his top seven tips to become a Microsoft Graph guru. These tips are crafted from his analysis of common issues raised during conversations with developers, partner troubleshooting engagements, support calls and public forum questions. With these tips in your tool belt, you'll not only be prepared for anything when you start integrating with Microsoft Graph, but also save hours of time with tools to accelerate your development.

The Microsoft Graph API is the future for all of Microsoft's APIs. If Microsoft is to compete with other cloud provider APIs (that were unified to begin with) then the Graph API must succeed in unifying all of Microsoft's existing disparate product and service APIs. The momentum has been steadily increasing and its prime time for the Graph API. If you've been across the API then put this session on your list, as there's nobody more passionate to talk about it than Jeremy!

BRK3075 - Learning about the Fluid Framework

Peter Allenspach, Microsoft; Tyler Butler, Microsoft

Learn about the Fluid Framework, a technology for building a new class of shared, interactive experiences on the web. This session goes into the details of the Fluid architecture and platform. This includes how Fluid can power high performance, low latency distributed applications, Fluid's componentized document model that allows content to be re-used across application as collaborative building blocks, and intelligent agents that can work alongside humans to translate text, fetch content, suggest edits, perform compliance checks, and much more.

I'm super interested in seeing some demos of this emerging technology. Is it OLE V2? Is it connected web parts? Is it reusable web components? Only one way to find out - attend this session! This session makes some pretty big promises and I'm interested to hear which products are going to be supporting this technology.

Colin Wood, OnePlace Solutions, Product Manager:

BRK3263 - External file sharing in Microsoft 365

Rafael Lopez-Uricoechea - Microsoft (OneDrive & SharePoint); Stephen Rice - Microsoft

Microsoft 365 provides a rich set of solutions for collaborating with users both inside and outside of your organization. This session offers an in-depth look at existing and brand-new external file sharing capabilities. Learn best practices for configuring external sharing and educating users on how to best leverage Microsoft Teams, SharePoint and OneDrive for collaborating with others on files.

The traditional way of delivering a file to an external contact outside of your organization is to send an email with an attachment. Now you can open up your Microsoft 365 tenant for secure external sharing of files and content. This will be a great session to learn how your organization can change the way it shares files and content with external parties providing rich collaboration opportunities across Teams/SharePoint/OneDrive.

BRK2090 - Will Microsoft Teams take over from email?

Tony Redmond - Office 365 for IT Pros

Some predict that Microsoft Teams will replace email within large organizations. It's certainly true that Teams makes it easy to share information between tenant users and guests, but things get more difficult when external communication is the focus. This session discusses how to approach a deployment of Teams when your organization has used Exchange and Outlook for many years. We explore the strong points of Teams and how this functionality differs from email - and then do the reverse and consider some of the downsides of Teams when compared to email. And, we consider how to measure the impact of Teams as some collaboration moves over from email. After all, you wouldn't want to move unless you achieve the desired result.

There is much debate at the moment as to which communication medium to use when collaborating internally and externally. With the popularity of Microsoft Teams, the communication and collaboration landscape is changing and the continued relevance of email is being questioned. This session will discuss the pros and cons of both and whether both can work together in an organization rather than compete.
