KB0039 - Files saved to a SharePoint 2010 'Drop off Library' using OnePlaceMail are not processed immediately by 'Content Organizer' rules whereas if a file is uploaded in the SharePoint 2010 UI it is processed immediately.

You are using OnePlaceMail to save files to a SharePoint 2010 'Drop Off Library'. The library has been configured with 'Content Organizer rules' to route files. For example, a rule has been configured to route files to an appropriate library destination based on the content type of the file once it is saved to the “Drop Off Library”.

Files saved using OnePlaceMail remain unprocessed in the 'Drop Off Library' as if the 'Content Organizer' rules have not been triggered. A single file saved into the 'Drop Off Library' via the SharePoint 2010 UI triggers the 'Content Organizer' rules and is routed to the appropriate destination immediately.

Reason

Items sent to the “Drop Off Library” by standard “Send To” functionality in SharePoint or uploaded using OnePlaceMail are not processed immediately but are processed Daily by default by a timer job on the server as below:

drop-off-library-a

Solution

This timer job schedule can be tweaked to your requirements to run more or less frequently and can be run manually in Central Administration by going to Central Administration\Monitoring\Timer Jobs\Review Job Definitions\Content Organizer Processing (for appropriate web application).

Provided your timer service is operating correctly on the server the emails you upload to the Drop Off Library using OnePlaceMail will be routed according to your Content Organizer Rules the next time the timer job runs.
